Exploratory Programming

This is the main page for Exploratory Programming and contains basic job descriptions for each of Camp Fitch's Exploratory (or non-Kiva) Programs.

Goals for Exploratory Programs

Our goals for the Exploratory Programs are for each camper to have an opportunity to explore their interests in a fun, non-committal way. Ultimately, our goals for this part of the camper's day remain:

  1. be exposed to new skills and experiences
  2. strengthen relationships with people

Waterfronts

Lake Erie – assist waterfront staff with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a lifeguard (if certified)
  • Assist campers with life jacket sizing and safety
  • Load and unload campers from tow-able inflatables
  • Monitor the beach and its boundaries
  • Act as a safety spotter on a power boat or jet ski
  • Assist with instruction and execution of water skiing, sailing and/or paddle boarding

Lake M’VIMA – assist waterfront staff with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a lifeguard (if certified)
  • Assist campers with life jacket sizing and safety
  • Load and unload campers from boats
  • Monitor the lake and its boundaries

Pool – assist waterfront staff with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a lifeguard (if certified)
  • Act as a safety spotter (lifeguard certification is not required)

Shooting Sports

Riflery – assist Riflery Director with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with instruction to campers regarding equipment, procedure, technique and safety
  • Count ammunition
  • Monitor the range for safety
  • Score targets

Archery – assist the Archery Director with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with instruction to campers regarding equipment, procedure, technique and safety
  • Monitor the range for safety

BBs – assist the BB Director with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with instruction to campers regarding equipment, procedure, technique and safety
  • Count ammunition
  • Monitor the range for safety

Safari Range (Paintball) – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding equipment, procedure, technique and safety
  • Maintain accurate records of campers’ spending
  • Properly store and maintain equipment
  • Communicate with program director to replenish consumables (paint balls, CO2, etc.)
  • Monitor the range for safety

Adventure Sports

Rock Climbing – assist Lead Rock Climbing Facilitator with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a belayer (if certified)
  • Act as a spotter
  • Monitor the activity for safety

Zip Line – assist Lead Rock Climbing Facilitator with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare campers for zip line
  • Assist campers with safety equipment and procedures

Outdoor Pursuits

Nature – Create a schedule of events to provide campers with opportunities to:

  • Learn about and appreciate things in nature
  • Learn about and participate in the care and feeding of Nature Center animals

Fishing – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding equipment, technique and safety
  • Maintain equipment and bait

Horseback Riding – assist the Horse Barn Director with one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding horses, technique and safety
  • Assist with physical duties at the barn

Batting Cage – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding equipment, technique and safety
  • Maintain equipment

Crafts

Open Crafts – Assist the Craft Director with one or more of the following:

  • Help campers to begin their gimp projects
  • Provide instruction to campers regarding specific crafts

Hemp Crafts – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding technique
  • Maintain inventory
  • Maintain accurate records of campers’ spending
  • Communicate with program director to replenish consumables (hemp, beads, etc.)

Sports and Games

Ga-ga – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Help campers understand the rules and expectations of the game
  • Provide supervision during play
  • Maintain equipment

Sports Skills – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding a variety of sports skills
  • Create opportunities for campers to use these skills through drills, activities and games
  • Maintain equipment

Group Games – Act as the primary leader to complete these tasks:

  • Provide instruction to campers regarding game play and safety
  • Create opportunities for campers to participate in competitive and non-competitive games
  • Maintain equipment
